In a landmark move at Maha Kumbh 2025, over 100 women were initiated as Naga Sannyasinis by the Sannyasini Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhara . This marks a significant step towards gender inclusivity in spiritual practices. Notably, international participants from Italy, France, and Nepal were among those initiated, reflecting the global resonance of this spiritual tradition.
Embracing gender equality,AtalAkhara has officially renamed its women’s wing to Sannyasini Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhara . This change acknowledges and formalizes the role of female monks within the Akhara’s spiritual framework.
Mahant Kaushal Giri was expelled for accepting a 13-year-old girl as a ‘donation’ and initiating her as a monk, violating ethical and legal norms. The girl was returned to her family, and a new minimum age limit of 22 years has been established for women seeking sainthood.
Abhey Singh, known as ‘IITian Baba’, was expelled for misconduct and disrespect towards the Akhara’s leadership. The Akhara emphasized that discipline and respect for one’s Guru are paramount, and violations of these principles are not tolerated.
Juna Akhara commenced its participation in Maha Kumbh 2025 with a grand ‘Nagar Pravesh’ procession in Prayagraj. The event featured seers and Mahamandaleshwars in a vibrant display of devotion, marking the beginning of the Akhara’s activities at the festival.
